Take-home naloxone programmes in Europe — overdose prevention

The following is a video produced by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA).  If follows a meeting held in October 2014 exploring how to scale up take home naloxone schemes.

As Isabelle Giraudon says in the film:

Drug overdose continues to be one of the main causes of death among problem drug users and reducing fatal overdoses remains a major challenge for public health.

The EMCDDA have also produced a paper reviewing the evidence that naloxone combined with training in first aid for coping with an overdose for people who are not health professionals can help save lives.
